Location & Approach
This marina was born out of a strict necessity to provide shelter and provisions to the growing number of tourists coming to Skiathos island in eastern Greece, in the Aegean Sea. As a result, Skiathos marina is the only private marina on the island and it’s located right next to the commercial port, a fact which has several benefits.

Also, the marina is very conveniently located just 2km from the island’s airport and heliport, making the possibilities of getting here and the transfer options that much easier. That’s why during the summer months you’re going to find many vessels moored at this marina.

The geographic position of the Skiathos marina is within the big bay that also houses the commercial port (directly to the south), with the coordinates 023° 29΄ E 039° 09΄ N. The waters here are deep and there are no major dangers when approaching the marina which has one major pier along which the boats are moored.

When approaching from the south, a good visual point is the harbor’s main pier where ferries dock or the old monastery on the small islet just south of it. An Approach from the north is not advised since that would mean going around the island to get to the bay. From the east, the course to follow is between the Vrachonisida island and Lazareta Cape from where you can see the Skiathos harbor and marina on the other side of the bay.

Infrastructure & Ambience
Since the marina has only one pier, only 70 berths exist foryachts and catamarans with the promise of a future extension to 350 berths. The berths all have drinking water and electricity supply. Remember that in Greece drinking water is very expensive and considered somewhat of a luxury. There is no fuel station for boats, but fuel is delivered to your boat by car-tanker.

There are only basic facilities in the marina itself, such as toilets and showers, bars and restaurants, but the main street in town is just 5 minutes by foot, literally placing you in the city center as soon as you set foot on land. This offers tourists a range of options when it comes to dining, shopping or provisioning.

The connections to the marina are also excellent, with a bus terminal connecting Skiathos to most of the cities on the island and also to some great beaches for which this location is famous for. The ferry lines are located in the harbor, also very close, and a trip to the airport would take any group just 20 minutes.

Skiathos is a great place to get a taste of Greek life, since it has some of the greatest sand beaches and an excellent nightlife to boot. Most of the island is covered in thick pine forests which can offer great views as well as the setting for many relaxing trips to the countryside. Add to that the great accessibility of the island and you understand why Skiathos is so popular with the adventurers.

The prevailing wind in the summer is the “Meltemi”, blowing from the Northeast, Force 3-4, although occasionally in July and August wind blows stronger from a North-West direction with a force 4-6 and dies at the end of September.

The Sporades Islands hug the east coast of central Greece. Beautiful white sandy beaches, unspoiled anchorages, ancient ruins and abundant sea life, will offer you a sense of exploration and independence.

So, let the beauty of the islands, forests, beaches, villages, churches and castles take you on a journey back in time. Skiathos main marina, which is about 15 minutes from Skiathos airport, is an ideal starting point, for a journey to explore the Sporades and the coast of northern Greece.
