Mahon is one of the largest natural harbors in the world and has always been an important port. In Mahon you can witness the mixture of old and new architecture and see the way that maritime history has influenced the island of Menorca. Some may be interested in visiting the 18th-century Xoriguer Gin Distillery. Sailing north you will pass the S’Albufera des Grau Park, a national park of astounding natural beauty. Fornells is a beautiful village in which to drop anchor. From here you can enjoy the beaches and perhaps dine in the local restaurants and cafés. Ciutadella de Menorca is a popular tourist destination, and there is a lot to see in the harbor: The La Mola Fortress, the Isla del Rey British Military Hospital, Lazaretto Quarantine Island, Fort Malborough and the Sant Felip Castle. When you reach the Cap Formentor on Mallorca, the scenery is truly magnificent. Safe anchorages can be found at Cala Engosalba, Cala Murta and Cala en Feliu before reaching Port de Pollenca. The coastline between Pollenca and Cala Ratjada has many beaches and coves, and is suitable for relaxed sailing. There are also convenient marinas in Colónia de Sant Pere and Port d’Alcudia.

Sailing Conditions

The Balearic Islands experience over 300 days of sunshine and warm weather between the months of April and October. The dominant Tramuntana winds blow from the north and are lighter during July and August. It is necessary to pay attention to tides and strong winds can occur. We recommend this route to sailors with previous experience.
